OLDHAMERS are being warned to be on the look out for stray balloons — for they could prove very rewarding.

Members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists released 50 balloons — some of which have prize tags attached — into the sky to celebrate five decades of the organisation.

The first prize winner will receive a full advanced driving course, driving manuals and an advanced test.

Two runners-up will get an advanced driving course and manuals while seven third prize winners can claim a copy of the police driving manual Roadcraft.

The IAM was set up with the aim of reducing the number of accidents and making the roads are a safer place. Some insurance companies also offer reduced rates for drivers who have passed the course.

The charity organisation guides drivers through a 13-week course culminating in a test which is carried out by a police driving examiner.
