Congratulation to Oliver Mills-Nanyn who has passed his Advanced Car Test with Examiner Peter Doyle.

Oliver follows his father and brother who both passed their Advanced Test with West Pennine Group. This has to be quite a family achievement!

When Andrew visited the Group to receive his certificates he thanked all the Observers who had supported him during his preparation. Andrew added that he was hoping to continue and work towards other Advanced Driving qualifications soon.

It’s a FIRST!!  Congratulations to Chris Loder who has passed his Advanced Car Test with top marks.  Here he is… receiving his certificate from West Pennine’s Chairman Noel Davies.

Chris was delighted to hear the result of his Test from Examiner John Gregory and he thanked all the Observers who worked with him towards achieving success.  Observer Dave Cannon was his Demonstration Driver and Colin Watt, John Prince and Noel Davies were his Observers.  Peter Smithies did Chris’ Assessment.

Taking a quote from Chris’ email, he said that he thought the Group does an excellent job.  Many thanks for your comment Chris we all appreciate it.

 West Pennine Group is delighted that Mimi Chilton has passed her Advanced Car

Test. Once Mimi had been given a demonstration drive by Noel Davies she never

looked back. Mimi didn’t continue her course straight away because of a series of

pre-arranged events but soon, with the support of Observers Dave Cannon, Colin

Watt, John Prince and Noel she was ready for her Assessment with Beryl Schofield.

Peter Smithies added the final touches to Mimi’s course and she passed her test with

Examiner Dudley Martin.

West Pennine Group sends congratulations to Nick Cotterill-Waring after he passed the Advanced Car Test with Examiner Dudley Martin.

Nick made the decision to come along to West Pennine and prepare for his Test because he has a young daughter who enjoys being taken out in his car and he wanted to make sure that he was doing the very best that he could to keep his family safe.

Once Nick had been given a Demonstration Drive by Dave Cannon he never looked back.

Nick was supported throughout his course by Dave, Colin Watt, Noel Davies, Beryl Schofield and Peter Smithies.

and James, whose enthusiasm was infectious, was a great example.

Well done to Phil Davies

Phil Davies has achieved a FIRST on his advanced car test.  Congratulations Phil and 
very well done.  When chairman Noel Davies presented Phil with his certificate, Phil 
told us that during the first few weeks of guidance he felt that he was learning a 
completely new skill.  Eventually, Phil said it all just clicked and he doesn’t think that 
he can go back to the way he was driving before he started the course.  We think that 
many people feel a bit like that at the beginning but we know that as the course 
progresses it does just what Phil said--------it clicks.  Very soon it becomes second 
nature.
Phil thanks all the observers who helped him through the course.
We know we’ll see you again Phil...observer training beckons.

Here’s another test pass for West Pennine Group. Congratulations to Matt Rothwell

who has passed his advanced car test with examiner Dudley Martin. When Matt

received his certificate from Chairman Noel Davies he remarked that he didn’t feel

the DVLA test fully prepared him for driving in all conditions and circumstances and

so he looked to gain more experience and guidance from the IAM. Wise words!!

Matt thanked all the West Pennine observers who worked with him during his course.

The smile on Tessa’s face when she received her certificate from group chairman Noel
Davies said it all.  Tessa Law has passed her advanced car test with examiner Chris 
Edwards.  She thanked all her observers for their patience and good advice.  Do call in
for a coffee one Sunday morning Tessa, we’ll be pleased to see you.

Towards the end of his course and with a test booked, Ramon contracted an infection which required quite a few weeks of recovery.  Nevertheless, Ramon returned with great determination for further observed runs to bring him back to Test ready standard and passed his Test with Examiner Chris Givvons.

James was given Observed Runs by Colin Watt, Dave Cannon, John Prince, Peter Smithies, Noel Davies, Janet Boardman and Robin Unsworth.  Beryl Schofield did James’ assessment.  James has said that he will consider training to become an Observer.  We all hope so James!

It’s a FIRST

Barbara Hearne has been given a FIRST pass for her Advanced Car Test with Examiner Dudley Martin.

This is excellent news for Barbara and for the West Pennine Group.

Barbara decided to have her driving assessed by the IAM and was allocated Dudley Martin who, once they had completed the assessment, advised Barbara to purchase a Skill for Life course and Test which she did----what good advice!

When Barbara started her course with West Pennine she was given a Demonstration Drive by Dave Cannon.  Observers Janet Boardman, Roger Petty, Noel Davies, John Prince and Colin Watt were on hand to help Barbara reach Advanced Test standard and Peter Smithies did Barbara’s Assessment.

Well done Anne Walton for passing the Advanced Car Test. Chris Givvons was the Examiner for Anne’s Test. Peter Smithies gave Anne a Demonstration Drive when she first visited the Group and Dave Cannon, Noel Davies, John Prince, Colin Watt and Janet Boardman and Beryl Schofield prepared Anne for the Test. Anne’s Assessment was taken by Peter Smithies. In the picture you can see Anne receiving her certificate from Noel Davies at the Clayton Green.

Peter Callan has passed his Advanced Car Test with Examiner Chris Givvons.  Many congratulations Peter from all of us at West Pennine.  Peter found out about us when he visited our Publicity Event at the local supermarket and says it has been one of the best decisions he made recently.  When Peter received his certificate from Group Chairman Noel Davies, he thanked all the Observers who have given him Observed Runs  and particularly Dave Cannon who did a Demonstration Drive for him.  West Pennine Observers Roger Petty, John Prince, Noel Davies, Beryl Schofield and Janet Boardman helped Peter to reach Test standard and Peter Smithies did his Assessment.

Nina for her Test. Here is another example of how drivers keep the West Pennine Group in mind over time. Nina’s husband took his Advanced Car Test after his course with West Pennine in 1997. The picture shows Nina showing off her pass certificate.

Here’s another Test pass for West Pennine Group. Congratulations to Lee Ingham who passed his Test with Examiner Chris Givvons. Group Chairman presented Lee with his certificate.

The Group is often impressed with the way drivers keep Advanced Motoring in mind as the years go by and Lee is a great example of this. Lee visited West Pennine Group for a Demonstration Drive in 1994. At that time it was not convenient for Lee to allocate the time required to preparation for the Advanced Test but he clearly kept it in his thoughts until recently when he returned and successfully completed his course. Lee has indicated that he hopes to begin training as an Observer soon.

After Peter Smithies had given Tony a Demonstration Drive we had to delay Tony’s start date with the Group because we were very busy. In Sarah’s words, this is what she had to say about the Group----“Just wanted to say thank you, you really do an excellent job of nurturing people through the process of improving to the Advanced driving standard.”

Sarah took her Test in Huddersfield with Examiner Dudley Martin. During her course with the West Pennine Group she was supported by Noel Davies, John Prince, Peter Smithies, Colin Watt, Dave Cannon and Beryl Schofield.

Once Colin Watt had delivered his Demonstration Drive, Robin knew that he wanted to start the course. Observers Dave Cannon, Janet Boardman, Noel Davies, John Prince and Peter Smithies were on hand to advise and Beryl Schofield did Robin’s Assessment. Robin’s Test Examiner was John Williams.

We’re also very pleased to report that Robin wants to become an Observer.
